Your bedroom should be your sanctuary. To create your restful and soothing retreat, start with the bedding.
With so many options, we know it can be difficult to choose bedding that’s right for both you and your better half. Keep reading for our recommendations for the right additions for your registry, plus tips on how to make the perfect bed.
Don’t Mind The Numbers
When shopping for bedding, it’s easy to get fixated on thread counts, though they don’t necessarily add up to the best sheets. Look for high quality cotton like Egyptian or organic, and keep it 100% pure. Even in lower thread counts, cotton sheets feel cool and smooth to the touch, and will get softer over time.
Get Set
In general, it’s a good idea to have at least three sets of sheets for each bed in your home. This allows for one set in use, one in the laundry, and one in reserve. Consider custom monogramming with both of your initials for a personal and luxurious feel.
Layer It On
Giving a bed multiple layers adds style and comfort, and allows for temperature flexibility. After securing your fitted sheet, lay your flat sheet down, then a coverlet or quilt. Next, fold the top quarter of the coverlet or quilt and flat sheet down. For a look that’s neat and inviting, lay your duvet down and fold it in thirds at the foot of the bed.
Mix It Up
Mixing textures and patterns brings warmth and character to a bedroom. When combining contrasting patterns, sticking to one palette for cohesiveness is a good rule of thumb.
Make It Plush
Pillows are essential, not only for a good night’s rest but for a cozy bed. Layer them back to front: pillows in pillowcases, euro shams, then front-facing. Use three sets on a king bed and two on a queen bed, and keep a basket at the side of the bed for corralling pillows when you go to sleep.
