Did you know that National Best Friends Day is just around the corner? This year it’s on June 8th, and we have the perfect gift idea for your BFF: a friendship bracelet you made with your bestie’s favorite colors in mind. To kick it up a notch, we turned to DIY blogger Angela from If Found Make to help us create a more grownup version: an embellished friendship bracelet. Take a peek!

Materials:

  • Gold jewelry chain (such as Bead Landing 18″ Link Chain)
  • Wire cutters
  • 3-4 colors embroidery floss
  • Scissors
  • Large sewing needle

Step 1: Start by making a standard friendship bracelet. If you haven’t done this before, it’s easy! Here’s a great tutorial. Tip: Double-knot each strand to prevent the bracelet from curling.

DIY-Bracelets-2Step 2: Add the metal chain. To do this, cut a piece of matching string 2 to 3 times as long as the bracelet. Tie the end of the string to one end of the bracelet. Then, use the needle to weave the string through each metal link, then up through the bottom of the bracelet. Repeat in-between knots all the way across, never leaving out a chain.
DIY-Bracelets-3Step 3: When you get to the other end, weave through one last time and tie off. You can stop here and wear the bracelet –or, you can add the chain to the top of the bracelet, too! In the picture below, I wrapped the chain around the bracelet and weaved it through the entire way.

Since I had one of each, I wore them together and it had the effect of a chunky, tiered bracelet.DIY-Bracelets-6Happy (almost) National Best Friends Day!

Thanks, Angela! Will you try this DIY to celebrate National Best Friends Day? Let us know who you’d give one to!
