The Secret To a Perfectly Organized Dorm

Dorm move in day is just weeks away — if you’re anything like the crew of dorm ambassadors here at PBteen you’ve probably planned everything out from your bedding to the pictures that will adorn on your new walls. One small thing you might be forgetting — just how tiny that dorm room actually is! Dorm rooms are typically itty bitty spaces shared with one to two other students. We know trying to cram everything you own into that tiny space can be stressful which is why we’re sharing our secret weapon to creating extra storage and organization — the trunk! Here’s why you’ll love it…

The perfect coffee table

Every space in your dorm room has to be multifunctional — your desk doubles as a vanity, your bed doubles as a late night study spot and early morning seat for breakfast — and your trunk will become your favorite new table. We’ve even used our Beadboard Trunk for a little extra seating when friends come over!

What To Stash…

Just about everything you won’t need on a day-to-day basis. Unlike living at home — your dorm has no linen closet and no attic for winter clothes. Everything you need for the year will need to be stashed neatly away in your itty bitty shared space. Here’s what you’ll want to keep in your perfect new storage spot…

1. Extra Bedding

You’ll want to have extras for those weeks you don’t quite make it to the laundry room and those chilly winters. Don’t forget:

  • 1 -2 spare sets of sheets
  • An extra pillow — perfect for bringing to the common area for movie night or for just an extra dose of cozy in winter time
  • A throw blanket or two for winter — you’ll definitely want a few extra layers come the colder months!

2. Winter Clothes

Winter boots and coats can take up a ton of precious space in your otherwise perfectly organized closet. Leave these items in your trunk until the temperatures drop, then swap ’em out and leave those summer sundresses in your trunk!

3. Travel Essentials

Thanksgiving break will have you headed back home for time with the family, leave all of your travel goodies like this darling duffle neatly tucked away until Turkey Time!

4. Extra School Supplies

You’re going to burn through notebooks and pens pretty quickly that first semester. Keep your extra notebooks and old textbooks in your trunk until you’re ready to use them. We love this pretty gold notebook from Sugar Paper Co!
