This Effortlessly Stylish Bedroom Was a Labor of Love

Kristen Vincent, a family photographer based in San Diego, CA, recently shared these lovely photos of her daughter’s room, which she styled with some Pottery Barn pieces as well as a good dose of DIY creativity.

Kristen notes, “This room was another labor of love working side by side with the amazing ladies of Bungalow 56. The design inspiration for this room was to create a space that would be comfortable for a teenager, but also sophisticated enough to use  for years to come.” We caught up with Kristen to learn more about the inspiration for this space.

How did you decide on the furniture and accent pieces you used in the room?

“These would be the pieces she would take with her to college and her first apartment We wanted it to flow with the rest of the home and still have a bit of a beachy vintage feel.”

How did you decide on the wall color?

“We chose a pale blue color for the walls that Katelyn helped choose. (We had to talk her down from the idea of having bright purple walls.) This seemed like a good compromise and was still a fun, youthful color. The rest of the room was a surprise, Katelyn was out of town and came home to a room that had been completely redecorated as a reward for good grades.”

Can you tell us a little about the furniture you distressed?

“The dresser and nightstand were oak and we spent hours hand painting and distressing those pieces a creamy white and replaced the knobs with mercury glass ones  to add a whimsical touch. Shelves made from old pallets are a great home for her books and keepsakes.”

Can you believe that these shelves were made from pallets? We love the creativity and vision!

What Pottery Barn pieces did you use?

“The pieces we used from Pottery Barn are the metal table lamps, the burlap shades and the accent pillows on the bed.”

What do you love about this room?

“I love that it doubles as a beautiful and comfortable room for guests when they visit from out of town. She loves how relaxing and cozy the bed is. When she first walked in after we surprised her she said, ‘I love it! It feels like I’m at a spa!'”
