Inside Our “A Walk in the Wildflowers” Tea Party

Written by Megan Bailey of Sweet Little Peanut for Building Blocks.

The inspiration for this wildflower tea party began when I saw the darling Lavender Elephant Tea Set from Pottery Barn Kids. I knew I wanted to create a rustic chic girl’s party based on this piece – and the ideas started flowing instantly!

I loved the idea of playing off the cute elephant teapot, so I created a similar icon that we used throughout the party’s design elements, combined with shades of lavender. I also wanted to play up the backyard garden idea because it’s the perfect setting for a spring or summer party. We brought in a Bohemian feel in a subtle way with fresh flowers, feathers, leather, burlap, plus a fun guide for making floral crowns for the little party guests!

Once we had the theme and color palette set, it was easy to create fun recipes that would fit the look and style of this tea party. We came up with a dessert table filled with lavender cake pops, cupcakes, French macarons, elephant-shaped sugar cookies, homemade flower-shaped marshmallows and, of course, a lavender ombré birthday cake!

Here are my favorite pieces to get the perfect party look:

It was so much fun and such an honor to be on set with the Pottery Barn Kids team! I hope you enjoy the Walk in the Wildflowers theme as much as I enjoyed working on it.

This is great. It is so global…I love it! I have been looking for an idea in our playroom (I just need to do it on a bigger scale for a 9 year old girl). We have lived all over the world and this is just the right look to complete our play space…thanks for the idea!

I loved this because I went through such a similar process designing the “set” for some Easter/spring photos for my 1-year-old. It started with the Pottery Barn green vine basket and white Easter bunny. I also wanted a lavender net canopy but you didn’t have one! Now I see the lavender-topped version, very nice. Here’s a link to one of the pics to show the feel of it: https://www.facebook.com/KristenAlligoodPhotographer/photos/t.1342506907/371564532983085/?type=3&theater
Also, love the lavender tea set!
