We can’t get enough of the party that Hillary Kerr threw to celebrate her collaboration with us for our registry program. The elegant but casual vibe of the outdoor gathering struck a chord with us as well as you since we have been inundated with requests for how to recreate Hillary’s signature vibe of new traditional meets relaxed chic. The balance that Hillary created for this table is a home run in our opinion and we are excited to share tips on how you can make it your own! Watch the video below for Hillary’s tips and be sure to hover over each of the pictures to see what Pottery Barn products you can use to style a similar tablescape.
Hillary’s florist stuck with the tried and true formula of “thriller, filler and spiller” when creating the seasonal bouquets and centerpieces. By choosing roses and dahlias as the “thriller”, that allowed him to use the less expensive florals to fill in to create a fuller arrangement. And here is the tip for getting that professional look, be sure to use greenery to visually soften the lip of the container. In this case, the florist uses a variety of greenery including herbs to get the “spiller.”
The secret to the relaxed but elegant vibe of this table according to Hillary? “Mixing metals,” she says! The mixing of metallics creates a contemporary but casual vibe for the table setting, which sets the mood. The trick to ensuring that your metals don’t clash? The answer is finish. Notice all the patinas on the table are a wonderfully muted tone which just adds to the relaxed vibe.
Who doesn’t love finding an unexpected surprise waiting for them? Hillary created personalized table cards from geodes and gold letters for this table. Not only does this DIY add an unexpected but personal element o the table it also doubles as a surprise guest keepsake from the dinner.
Wonderful tips! I’m going to be using those tips when I host Thanksgiving this year!!
