Halloween Mantel Decorating Guide from A Fashionable Hostess

We know — it’s only the first official day of fall, but admit it, you’re at least a little bit excited about the change in seasons, too. Amanda Saiontz Gluck — the decorating and party expert behind Fashionable Hostess — loves fall, and couldn’t wait to decorate the fireplace mantel of her new home in Nashville for Halloween.

“I am all about a more sophisticated approach when it comes to decorating for Halloween. I love incorporating autumn colors, bright oranges and browns, and then adding in some playful accents — but my goal is to make sure it’s not too kitschy. My new fireplace mantel was the perfect place to bring my ideas to life!”

“I started by laying a Pottery Barn Bittersweet Garland across the mantel. Then I staggered large pillar candles, pumpkins, and black candlesticks throughout (all from Pottery Barn’s newest Halloween collection). I chose this garland because of its beautiful colors and earthy elements — like the incredibly realistic pinecones! The leaves on the garland are complementary to the pops of orange in the pumpkins.”

Candles at varying heights in black candleholders look festive and just slightly spooky when lit up at night.”

“I took some of my favorite everyday brass Pottery Barn lanterns from my patio and incorporated them into the mix by placing them alongside lit pumpkins and a small ceramic pumpkin in front of my mantel. I love to place clusters of three to four items throughout my home for a splash of visual interest, like on my front porch or even on our front stairwell.”

“I twirled some adorable Pottery Barn pumpkin garlands around the legs of my bar cart and then placed a large Pottery Barn orange pumpkin right on top. Come party-time this will be the perfect place for cocktails to be carted around!”
