Guest Post: Bring Spring to Your Front Porch

Today, Rebekah Carey McNall of A & B Creative shares her top tips for refreshing your front porch this Spring.
frontporch41. Add planters to create a container garden on your porch or front steps.
This is a great way to infuse your style from inside your home, to the outside. Opt for monochromatic, eclectic or vintage inspired. Mixed finishes and bright colors are great for an eclectic look. All white pieces in smooth finishes add to a mid-century look. Materials like concrete or charcoal colors are perfect for sleek, modern inspired looks. Various sized terra cotta planters with cacti and succulents add to a boho look.

This is a also a great place to start an herb garden. Choosing native plants is a great way to insure that your new plants will do well!

2. Update your front door and add a pop of color, or drama, by painting or replacing your front door.
Shop reuse or salvage stores for a new surplus door.  You could also pick a vintage door that may match the period of your home better, or to help a newer home to feel more curated.
knocker3. Use accessories to update details.
A new porch light, house numbers or knocker or doorbell plate. This is another great way to display your style onto your stoop! Sleek house numbers or a vintage knocker add personality for minimal investment and time.

Wreaths and garland are a great way to update your door for the new season! You can choose a preserved or artificial option if you want to use it year after year, or create a fun tradition of picking out a new one each year and letting it dry throughout the season.

If you have space on your front porch you can quickly create an outdoor living space by adding an outdoor rug and a cafe table and chairs. I like to mix vintage with new pieces so that I can have a story from my vintage pieces and durability from the new ones. If you don’t have very much space you can also just have outdoor throw pillows that you can pull out when you want to bask in the sun with your favorite book.
