To celebrate Earth Day, we’re looking at some eco-friendly and easy ways to go green in the bath. There’s no need to remodel your bath with all eco-friendly materials to make a difference. Instead, changing small habits can make a big difference over time. Here are five of our favorite easy ways to go green in the bath.
- Save water. Try installing some simple water-saving measures in your bathroom. A low-flow showerhead, a low-flow faucet aerator and a dual-flush toilet will save thousands of gallons of water a year.
- Go all-natural in your body products. Purchase organic shampoo, conditioner, soap and other products that are all natural or organic. They’re not only better for the environment, they’re also healthier for your skin and hair.
- Switch out your shower curtain. If your shower curtain liner is made from polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plastic, switch it out for a PVC-free plastic liner. PVC production creates toxic dioxins, and once PVC is in your home, it can offgas, creating a less healthy home environment.
- Clean green. Avoid any product that has a “poison” label on it. Look for eco product lines, available at any local grocery store, or even try making your own products with simple ingredients such as vinegar, baking soda and lemon. We also love this list of eco-friendly cleaning products.
- Use organic cotton. Bath linens made from organic cotton require fewer pesticides than regular cotton towels. Some of our favorite cotton bath towels are the Juliana Organic Towels.
