Here’s a fun little Valentine’s Day craft that doesn’t involve candy! These paper heart boxes are a great way to surprise your kids without having to worry about extra sugar.
Use the printable template for the paper boxes – it makes them super easy to create. When you’re done, fill the inside with mini-cupcake liners, perfect for holding fun things like party poppers, finger puppets, marbles and stick-on mustaches. Voila – an awesome treat that makes everyone happy!
You will need:
- Printable template
- Ruler
- Cutting mat
- Scissors
- X-Acto knife
- Glue
- Cardstock paper
- Mini-cupcake liners
- Fun treats or toys (get creative!)
Step 1: Print the template.
Step 2: Use the pages labeled “bottom” as your guide to cut out all the pieces. I used an X-Acto knife for the sides, and a pair of scissors for the heart.
Step 3: On the side pieces, fold all the tabs up. The piece with four tabs will become the top of the heart.
Step 4: Make a fold between the two middle tabs (labeled “top point”) and bend the sides so it follows the shape of the heart.
Step 5: Add glue to the bottoms of each tab and attach them along the edge of the heart. (You might need to hold them in place until the glue dries.)
Step 6: Attach the other two side pieces by placing glue along the edge of the first piece. Add glue to the bottom of each tab and continue shaping the sides of the heart until finished.
Step 7: Use the template pages labeled “top” to cut out the pieces. If you want to add scalloped edges to the top of your box, cut out the template and glue them to the back of your heart.
Step 8: Repeat steps 2-6.
Step 9: Decorate the outside of the box and fill up the inside with treats or toys. Then, give to your kids or friends!
