Love Where You Live: Q&A with Kate Riley of Centsational Girl

At Pottery Barn, we love changing, improving and playing with our home decor. But most importantly, we want everyone to feel happy about where they live, too. Life’s too short to feel bad about your home — it’s time to start loving where you live. It’s in this spirit that we’ve started a new series: Love Where You Live.

This week, we’re talking to Kate Riley of Centsational Girl. Although she certainly has a stunning home, it’s the little things that bring her the most joy!

Q: What is your favorite part about your home, and why?
A: I love the casual comfort of our family room and how it’s so open to our kitchen. We spend most of our afternoon and evening hours in those 500 square feet enjoying snacks and sharing family movie nights. Everyone has their favorite spot where we sit out of habit to kick back and relax at the end of the day.

Q: What do you think makes your house feel like a home?
A: Our home is filled with things that bring comfort, soft cushions, cozy blankets, down filled accent pillows with family friendly washable fabrics in a coastal inspired palette. We surround ourselves with things that have meaning, travel mementos, framed family pictures, memory baskets filled with photo albums. Anything breakable or semi-precious is either put away or placed high on a shelf or bookcase. The priority is a comforting cozy place where we make memories.

Q: What is the one thing you wish you could change about your house?
A: Our family room doesn’t have windows, so in the morning it is dark. The space relies on light in the evening from sconces or during the day from the adjacent kitchen and dining spaces, so to compensate I hung a trio of mirrors to mimic the ones in the kitchen and pull light into the space.
