A Super Cool Teen Room Makeover with Kirsten Grove

Last month we shared an awesome room makeover from O My Darlings blog who shared how to transition a kids room into a full on tween/teen dream space. After such a positive response we knew we had to share another transition from little kid space to tween space, so we turned to designer, mother, and blogger Kirsten Grove to share her tips. Here’s what she had to say…

Hi everyone! Kirsten from Simply Grove here today! I am so excited to be taking over The Stylehouse for the day to share my latest girls room makeover. For the last few years, my kids have shared a room. It has worked up to now but with both of them aging and becoming more and more independent, I knew it was time to give them each their own spaces. Today I’ll focus on the first room I started with! My daughter Eden Jo’s room was up first — I wanted to create a transitional room that could grow with her. I wanted the room to feel like her own but to still match the look and feel of the rest of our home (which is pretty modern). PBteen had exactly what I needed for this space, starting with the Emily + Meritt heart sheet set. These are so perfect for a room that needs to transition from a little girl space to a more mature girl space. I wanted a comforter to pair with the sheets that didn’t take away from the hearts and since stripes always compliment other patterns I chose the cottage stripe duvet cover in light grey, which can really be paired with anything!

IMG_3713When creating a modern space, layering color on clean white walls is an easy trick of the trade. Anything looks brighter and more fun on white. Eden had a favorite banner, “Happy” that totally captures her personality. The crisp white walls really make this banner pop — don’t you think?!

IMG_3717Lighting is an important tool in creating a calming mood for your bedroom. The Kennedy Desk Lamp gives off the perfect amount of light at night. And aesthetically… this is one super cool lamp. It’s another great piece that will grow and transition with Eden the older she gets.

IMG_3724This gorgeous Moroccan diamond rug is soft and warm. I placed right by Eden’s bed so she doesn’t have to deal with freezing feet in the mornings — our house get’s pretty chilly! I love the look of it because while it looks gorgeous in the space now, it’s sophisticated enough to use for many many years to come.

IMG_3721Eden is a big reader, so I knew that I wanted to give her a reading light over her bed to help keep this great habit going strong. The accordion wall light can be positioned anywhere that you need light.

IMG_3719Let me tell ya…there is a lot of dirty laundry in our house. These laundry bags are fantastic because they can truly hold it all. Whites, darks and anything in between. I hung them up to make sure the floor doesn’t get too cluttered.

IMG_3722Lastly…every girl needs a princess mirror in their room. And who doesn’t want an angel wing mirror? This is personally my favorite accessory in Eden’s room. It’s whimsical and super cool, at the same time — does it get better than that?
