Mystery Box Challenge: Sugar and Charm’s Classically Cool Cocktail Party

We challenged 5 of our favorite entertaining bloggers to create the ultimate home bar, inspired by their signature cocktail and favorite pieces from our summer collection. Today, we’re featuring the fantastic design from Eden Passante at Sugar and Charm. We asked Eden about her inspirations for this design as well as her secrets to hosting a great cocktail party.

What was your inspiration and theme for your cocktail party?

For my cocktails I created a Blackberry Salty Dog and one of my favorite summer cocktails, Spiked Lemonade garnished with blackberries and strawberries. The cocktails were the perfect foundation for a blackberry and strawberry-colored theme! I wanted to keep it simple and classic for everyday backyard entertaining.

Which Pottery Barn products really made this party pop?

All of the products are simply gorgeous for outdoor entertaining! For my design, the large drink dispenser filled with lemonade, fresh strawberries and blackberries added a burst of color to the bar. The red-bottom cups were also a favorite and I love the pop of color they gave to the design. I also enjoyed filling the galvanized bucket with red and dark purple flowers, which added fresh decor and went with the blackberry and strawberry theme.

What do you think are the most special or unique details from your cocktail party?

The twigs used to garnished the Blackberry Salty Dog are unique and a very charming detail. I also created simple drink sticks for the spiked lemonade using a wooden skewer and Washi tape! Serving popsicles on ice is sweet and looks beautiful. Adding red and purple (two colors people don’t use together very often!) flowers to the lanterns and the galvanized bucket created splashes of color around the bar.

What’s your favorite summer spot for staging a cocktail party? (Lakeside, backyard, etc.)
If we lived close to a lake, I would love to throw cocktail parties lakeside! But since, we live in the city a nice, lush backyard works best. You can make any space special with details and charming touches.

What’s your favorite way to elevate a cocktail and turn it from ho-hum to fabulous?

Adding a special ingredient to it and garnishing! You can take a simple cocktail and add a unique twist to it to customize it to your theme or preference. For instance, the Blackberry Salty Dog is a spin-off of the original Salty Dog Cocktail. Adding fresh muddle blackberries provides a unique touch and customizes it to a summer party.  Always garnish your cocktails too! Drink sticks, fruit, sugar or salt… the details matter.
