Decorate Your Nursery with DIY Style

When it comes to nurseries, I love to incorporate a hint of DIY – an element crafted by mom or dad adds a unique and special touch. With a bit of creativity, you can design a room that blends handmade touches with store-bought furnishings for a truly one-of-a-kind space. I’ve rounded up a few ideas to inspire your DIY nursery decor – enjoy!

1. Use book pages as wall art. Think of a favorite book from childhood or a current children’s book that has great illustrations., then turn those pages into instant art with a few complementary frames. Stick to a single frame style like – the White Gallery Frame – for a crisp, clean look.

2. Decorate with decals. Simpler than wallpaper and quicker than paint, wall decals are a clever way to liven up a nursery. They’re available in a range of playful shapes such as stars, triangles and polka dots – don’t be afraid to mix and match different styles for a custom look. To complete the look, layer the crib in coordinating bedding (the Reese Nursery Bedding would look super sweet in a room like this) to create a fresh and modern space.

3. Keep clothes on display. While not technically a DIY, this is one of my favorite ways to personalize a nursery. Instead of storing away the clothes your baby has outgrown, pick a few treasured outfits and hang them on wall hooks. In my daughter’s room, we used the Hayden Simply White Shelves and Peg Rack to create a personalized display. Her costumes bring a punch of color – plus, they’re always within reach when she wants to play dress-up.

4. Decorate with paint. Paint is the one of the easiest ways to transform a space. Have a hand-me-down dresser you can’t bear to part with? Revitalize it with a fresh coat of paint to create a functional and beautiful addition to the nursery. The extra-wide surface will provide ample room for a changing table and pretty storage accessories.

5. Add color with fabric embroidery hoops. Even the most novice DIYer can create this colorful art display. Take scrap pieces of fabric and stretch them in different-sized embroidery hoops. Pair them with Mini Harper Painted Letters for a personalized touch. (Just be sure to mount the art so little hands can’t reach it!)
