How to Makeover Your Gallery Wall with Zio & Sons

“Anyone can hang a picture, right?” That’s usually the first thought someone has before tackling a gallery wall on their own. Most of us have had to learn the hard way — it’s a lot more difficult than it looks.

This season, we want to make it a bit easier on you. We worked with the talented team at Zio & Sons — a New York City based creative company, specializing in all things visual — to get founder Anthony D’Argenzio’s expert take on how to create a gallery wall that suits your style perfectly. The result is fresh, fun and personal — we love how he used some of our favorite new wall art and accessories. (How gorgeous is that mirror?)

1. Pick Your Focus
Pick a statement piece of furniture as an anchor before composing your gallery around it. We chose a narrow brass console that nestles nicely against the wall, leaving plenty of empty space to work with.

2. Tell a Story
Your wall should tell a interesting story. We found these vintage flower prints at a flea market in Paris and paired them with Pottery Barn’s modern white frames for a perfect mix of old and new. We also added antique oil paintings and framed personal photos to offset Pottery Barn’s contemporary art.

3. Add the Unexpected
We picked up this hand-woven hat on the beach in Tulum, Mexico. It gives the wall a sense of character and an extra personal touch.

4. Mirrors Are Your Friends
A mirror adds a fresh level of dimension and makes the space appear larger. Bonus points for one with unique details — we love this mirror’s thick leather strap for easy hanging.

5. Style It Up
Once your wall is fully decorated, spruce up the surrounding area with plants and other accent items like this modern lamp, wicker chair, and cozy shearling hide.

Beautiful. Love the artwork used here. Do you have a full picture posted anywhere of the image from the Aug 2015 catalog that promotes this blog article? (It’s the sectional sofa against a dark gray wall with the yellow feather artwork and other pieces.)

I’m a fan of gallery walls, having a collection that makes a statement. But I prefer the majority of the framing to be at least similar in color or style. Too many different frame colors drives me nuts.
