5 Ways To Give Back This Holiday Season

Blog_Random_Acts_of_Kindness

The holiday season is a great time to not only give thoughtful gifts to your friends and family, it’s also a great time to give back to your community. Today we’re sharing 5 of our favorite ways give…

1. Donate Old Toys & Clothes

It’s likely you’ll be receiving a lot of great gifts this season. Give back and declutter all in one go by going through all of your old things and deciding what can be donated. Toys from when you were a kiddo that are still lying around, clothes that no longer fit (warm coats in colder parts of the country are especially needed!), even unused school supplies you no longer need can all be donated to local shelters to help out somebody else! This is a great practice all year long, but especially during this time of year!

2. Be Spontaneous

Giving back doesn’t always have to be planned or huge. Make someones day by paying for their hot cocoa or open doors for strangers at the mall – it’s the little things like this that feel really good, especially during this cheerful time!

3. Volunteer

There are so many great organizations to volunteer with – soup kitchens, homeless shelters, tutoring programs, etc… Think about what you are passionate about and how you might be able to apply that to help someone else. Great at math? Help tutor someone who isn’t as strong in the subject. Enjoy cooking and cleaning? Offer to help an elderly or disabled community member with these simple tasks – while it might be easy for you to do laundry or grab a bag of groceries, these tasks can be taxing for some. Chat with your school, community center, or even just your family to see what opportunities are available locally.

4. Send Handwritten Cards

Like we mentioned above, not every good deed needs to take hours upon hours or a ton of money. Sometimes just reminding people you care can really make their day. Pause on the text messaging and snap-chatting and sit down to write a handwritten note to a family friend or relative. Handwritten notes are so special to give and to receive, so send one to someone who may just need a little boost!

5. Shop Wisely

A lot of shops offer gifts that give back! Look for charitable gifts like these, or even donate to a charity in someones name in lieu of a material item.
