Decorating, How-To | | | 11 Replies

Are you stumped when it comes to finding the perfect paint color? Overwhelmed by the overabundance of shades of blue, green or even white? Good news — thanks to our new partnership with Sherwin-Williams, you can find the right shade to work for your home as well as your favorite Pottery Barn furniture and accents. Our Sherwin-Williams Pottery Barn palette is carefully curated with a spectrum of carefully chosen colors perfect for our customers. (We’re especially loving the bold Naval hue, shown below.)

Why a paint palette? We’ll attribute it to overwhelming requests. In fact, when it comes to our catalog photos, after our customers check out new products, the most frequently asked question is “What paint color is shown in the catalog photo?” Through this new partnership with Sherwin-Williams, we will be providing our customers with paint colors that coordinate with our furnishings, making decorating even more turnkey.

To keep these colors fresh, twice a year, Pottery Barn’s product development and creative services teams will work together to select a paint palette that reflects its product-design direction and style for the upcoming season. We’ll then let our customers know about how we’re using the current paint collection to complement our product line, and which colors are featured in catalog photography.

Excited to try our new Pottery Barn paint palette? We’re offering an exclusive $15 coupon valid on a $75 purchase at Sherwin-Williams stores to encourage you to try out this new paint palette. So what are you waiting for? Let’s get painting!

Five Questions With Interior Designer Grant K. Gibson

Decorating, Decorating Inspiration, Inspiration | | | Leave a comment

Today, we’re catching up with San Francisco-based interior designer Grant K. Gibson. Grant’s work has been featured in publications including Architectural Digest, The New York Times, Elle Decor and House Beautiful, among many others. (Make sure to also check out Grant’s blog.) We asked Grant a few questions about San Francisco, design and Grant’s favorite things — illustrated with some of Grant’s favorite instagram snaps.
What do you love most about your home?

I love that, for such a small space, my home has a lot of beautiful architectural details. It is the perfect apartment for having a few friends over after work for an intimate gathering over a glass of wine or an impromptu meal. (I love cooking!)
What do you love most about the city where you live?

I was born in Los Angeles and then spent my early adult years in New York. I made San Francisco my home around 10 years ago. I personally love the weather, the food and the ability jump into the car and be a short ride from Napa, Tahoe or Carmel. San Francisco and the surrounding areas are just stunning!
What are you most looking forward to this summer season?

Every summer for the last few years, I’ve taken trips to visit friends who spend summers in Maine. It feels so much summer like. (especially coming from San Francisco, where the summers are not exactly warm.) The lobster rolls and popping into antique shops and old bookshops. It’s also a great place to source items for my clients.

What’s the last artistic or cultural event that really impressed you?

I am always impressed by the San Francisco Decorator Showcase house that occurs each spring. I love walking through a house where each designer has created their own space. It’s a great way to see new and fresh designs. My career actually started with a room that I did in the Decorator Showcase. Since that first room, I have designed 7 different showcases in San Francisco and New York, including two for Elle Décor.
What piece from Pottery Barn are you currently coveting? Why?

These bar stools remind me of my visits to Paris. I think that they add a great layer to a kitchen. The colors are fun and they are durable, (easy to wipe down if you have kids) and comfortable too! I personally think that barstools should have backs on them!

The Pottery Barn Rolling Cart Styled as a Bar Cart

Decorating, How-To | | | 4 Replies

We recently asked Rebekah from A&B Creative if she wanted to style our Metal Rolling Cart as a summer cocktail bar. Not only did she do that, she also styled it as a bath cart and a bedside table. You can find the bath cart on Refinery29 and the bedside table on PopSugar Home. Let’s hear what Rebekah has to say about styling the cart as a cocktail bar.

I  love colorful bar carts in people’s homes. For me, I think it’s really fun to have bright labels and a variety of glassware and trinkets, mixed with functional pieces. This cart packs a lot of storage, while not taking up too much room. The drawer is great for cocktail recipe books, a corkscrew, extra coasters, all the staples you need, but may not want as part of your display.

Having a range of glassware is always fun too; I used paper liners to go under them to add a pop of pattern. The whale cocktail shaker and bottle opener add a touch of whimsy to this eclectic set.

Three Cocktail Bar Styling Tips

  1. Mix colorful vessels and labels to create varying levels of height on the top of your cart.
  2. Group staples like straws, stirrers, etc. together to make them a part of the visual display instead of just extras.
  3. If your liquor bottles aren’t attractive (or top shelf) pour them into glass bottles with fun shapes and hang a label off of them to distinguish their contents.

Thanks Rebekah! Make sure to check out  the bath cart on Refinery29 and the bedside table on PopSugar Home.  You can also take a peek of the three styles in the video below.

Independence Day is probably one of the holidays I look forward to the most. Each year my dad hosts a pool party at his house and the entire family gathers for some food, swimming, and fun in the sun. It’s one heck of a good time and the kind of day I never want to end. Because it’s one of my favorite holidays, I put together a table setting inspired by and in celebration of our country’s birthday.

I like to set a table by using a couple unique focal pieces and then adding things I already own and love. I also enjoy mixing new finds with vintage treasures. Of course, red, white and blue was the obvious choice for the color scheme.

The table started with a red gingham table runner and this great anchor metal-tiered stand, both from Pottery Barn. Standard white plates are dressed up with a blue polka dot napkin set to one side. This reminded me of the American flag.

The anchor stand is filled with flowers on top. Various size mason jars and flowers from the yard make an easy centerpiece. Patriotic red velvet cupcakes fill the bottom.

Vintage dishes filled with cashews and a mini-flag add decoration and a little nibble before dinner. Homemade jam brings a fun touch to the table and doubles as a treat for guests to take home to remember the evening.

Near the table a vintage cart serves as a cocktail table. A mason jar drink dispenser is filled with homemade lemonade allowing guests to easily serve themselves. Vodka is available to make a refreshing lemon martini. Equal parts vodka and lemonade, shaken in an adorable whale shaker, and served in a martini glass create the perfect summer cocktail! More flowers tie the areas together.

A little gingham, unique touches, and a whole lot of charm create a table perfect for a Fourth of July celebration!

Simply Beautiful Style: A Fourth of July Decorating Moment

Entertaining, Parties | | | 13 Replies

We’re excited to share these photos that Julie Blanner sent to us. Julie, an event planner and designer who blogs at Coordinately Yours, tells us, “Fourth of July just might be my favorite holiday to decorate for. I love the patriotic colors that lend well to outdoor gatherings. I added a hint of nautical to this early evening celebration.”

“I used a small galvanized bucket to keep white wine chilled,” Julie shares. “I placed silverware rolled in blue striped bar towels in my galvanized beverage carrier. I prefer using these to traditional linens because they are so soft and don’t require ironing!”

“Of course a flag served as a backdrop. When the guest room is not in use, I pull the sideboard from the guest bedroom to use as a beverage bar for our patio parties,” Julie notes.

How are you decorating for Fourth of July this year? Share your ideas in the comments! And be sure to read more about Julie’s decorating and event planning adventures at Coordinately Yours.
